The centre focuses on finding out the drivers, pressures, state, impact and response (DPSIR) of
climate change and human livelihood or security. Research areas are appropriate technology in
mineral exploration; energy transition and energy integration in Africa and their impact on
households and firms; climate change and human security, climate change and health, especially
mental health as well as research into areas of environmental sustainability including waste
prevention and management in Africa.
Our research applies all research philosophies including interpretivism, positivism, pragmatism,
and realism to ensure appropriate data is collected for a particular research work. It is a data
driven centre that employs both quantitative and qualitative data for various research works. This
is done to ensure findings and outcomes of research works adequately meet the needs of policy
formulators or research beneficiaries.
The centre also collaborates and partners with other research institutions as well as national
institutions across the globe to conduct research in areas of shared interest such as climate
change and health, energy and environmental sustainability.
