Executive Director of CEMSE Speaks at Climate x Culture Summit 2026, Calls on Creatives to Adopt Sustainable Leadership

The Executive Director of the Center for Environmental Management and Sustainable Energy (CEMSE) spoke at the Climate x Culture Summit 2026, an event organized by CultureJoint in partnership with the Office of the Minister of State for Climate Change and Sustainability at the Presidency.

The Summit, held on Thursday, 22nd October 2026 at the Google Artificial Intelligence Community Centre, Accra, convened over 100 stakeholders from Ghana's climate, events, media, fashion, music, and creative industries under the theme "Designing Sustainable Creative Experiences for Africa."

Speaking at the Summit, the Executive Director of CEMSE advised creatives to make sustainable leadership part of their organizational culture.

He emphasized that sustainable leadership which integrates People, Planet and Profit in an organizational strategy and value system helps promote sustainable environmental practices.

He further emphasized that creatives must lead the fight against unsustainable environmental practices, given their unique power to shape public consciousness, influence behavior, and drive mass culture - especially ahead of Detty December and Ghana's booming events season.

His contribution aligns with CEMSE's mandate to integrate environmental management and sustainable energy principles into all sectors of the economy, including the creative economy.

Key Highlights from the Summit:

The Summit delivered several landmark outcomes:

1.       Launch of the Accra Climate Culture Accord: Signed by over 50 organisations and individuals, the Accord represents Africa's first formal creative-sector contribution to the global climate agenda and will be submitted to the UNFCCC and COP31.

2.       Sustainable Event Production Guide for Ghana: A practical guide co-developed during the Summit's workshops, to be made publicly available and adopted by event producers and brands by January 2027.

3.       Training of 50+ Climate Communicators:  A cohort of influencers, media practitioners and young creators were trained and activated with climate content plans ahead of Detty December 2026.

The maiden Climate x Culture Summit marks a bold shift proving that climate action must live not only in policy and science, but also within culture, creativity, storytelling, and public experience.

CEMSE congratulates CultureJoint and all partners on the successful hosting of the summit and reaffirms its commitment to supporting sustainable experiences for Africa.
