Dr. Akaabre is an Assistant Professor at the University of Alberta's School of Urban and Regional Planning. He holds a PhD from the University of British Columbia's School of Community and Regional Planning. Previously, he worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Toronto's School of Cities, where he led projects on equitable development and affordable housing.
Dr. Akaabre's research focuses on housing development, finance, and justice, as well as equitable growth and spatial justice. His work explores issues like housing inclusion, displacement, gentrification, and decolonization, with a particular emphasis on marginalized communities. He also has interests in municipal finance, healthy cities, inclusive development, and the impact of climate change on urban livelihoods.
Dr. Akaabre has worked with organizations like BC Housing and has professional memberships with the Planning Institute of British Columbia and the Canadian Institute of Planners. His research spans North America and Sub-Saharan Africa.
